In an age of perpetual surveillance, where our every move is tracked and our every communication is monitored, what does it mean to be free? And what does it mean to be just?

These are the questions that Alina Simone explores in her new book, Liberty and Justice in an Age of Perpetual Surveillance. Simone argues that the rise of surveillance technologies has created a new era of oppression, one in which our most basic freedoms are under threat.

Simone begins by examining the history of surveillance in the United States. She shows how the government has long used surveillance to target and control marginalized communities, from the surveillance of Black activists in the 1960s to the mass surveillance of Muslims after 9/11.

Simone then goes on to discuss the ways in which surveillance technologies have been used to suppress dissent and silence opposition. She points to the use of social media monitoring to track and harass activists, and the use of facial recognition technology to suppress protests.

Simone concludes by arguing that we need to fight for a new era of privacy and freedom. She calls for an end to mass surveillance, and for the creation of new laws to protect our privacy.

Liberty and Justice in an Age of Perpetual Surveillance is a timely and important book. It is a must-read for anyone who is concerned about the future of freedom in the digital age.
